England weigh up Yardy call
Posted by: | CommentsThe lack of options available to Andrew Strauss as the Dutch batsmen ran riot earlier this week were obvious. Only Stuart Broad managed to cause any problems with pace and Graeme Swann could have done with more support in the spinning department.
Kevin Pietersen was forced to turn his arm over but Holland made light work of the part-time spinner. Despite having Ravi Bopara in the side, Strauss chose not to hand the ball to the Essex all-rounder, a decision maybe regretted by the skipper after the match.
Michael Yardy may have been sat in the pavilion wondering why he wasn’t given a start in a tournament where spin is expected to play such a major role. The left-armer has spent much of the summer carrying the drinks for England Down Under and has done well when given a chance in warm-up games and the one-day series and the ICC Cricket World Cup betting suggests he could do well.
Playing two spinners is a must for teams wanting to reach the latter stage of this tournament and Yardy needs to play this weekend against India. The Bangalore pitch has already shown massive signs of turn during the early part of this World Cup and England need to have more options than bringing on KP to chuck a few pies down.
India are blessed with an abundance of talent in regards spin bowlers and will likely line up with in-form spin duo of Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh. The two looked good in India’s opening game victory against Bangladesh and will be looking to cause the English some problems this weekend.

Imperial Commander breezes through Warwick Gallop
Posted by: | CommentsThey old adage is that of “Horses for Courses” and the Cheltenham Festival is perhaps the best example of the truth behind this saying.
With a tough track followed by a remarkably difficult finish, the Cheltenham course will suit certain horses, delivering them fame and glory, whilst at the same time it is capable of breaking the will and ruining the reputation of many top prospects.
A horse that has experienced both success and failure at Cheltenham is the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Imperial Commander.
The winner of the last year’s Gold Cup will undoubtedly attract plenty of money from both the armchair punters and serious horse betting gamblers for another victory this year.
And the backers will be boosted by the latest reports following a run for the impressive ten-year-old at Warwick.
The horse was put through his paces early on Wednesday morning with two younger stablemates and came through very impressively.
Out since picking up a cut and missing the King George as a result, Imperial Commander was last seen in action when winning the Betfair Chase in November.
That performance reminded many of his on-going abilities and his prospects for a winning return to Cheltenham.
The next port of call for the horse is expected to be the Racing Post Chase at Kempton, where a good run will be expected to impact the ante-post betting.
Imperial Commander is currently 7/2 favourite to retain the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March.
